Post by Marie LaFreniere »

Noel Marie Eichhorn, age 77, passed away following a brief illness early Tuesday morning, October 13, 2020 at McLaren Bay Region. She was born to John and Elizabeth (Tooley) Gray on December 25, 1942 in Bay County and has resided in the Bay City / Essexville area all her life. Noel was a graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1961, and was currently a member of All Saints Parish, St. James Church. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from SVSU in 1974, where she also received her Master’s Degree in Developmental Learning in 1980. In addition, she received endorsements in reading and elementary administration from SVSU and her certification as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader from WMU. Noel was employed with Essexville-Hampton Schools for 14 years as an elementary teacher (10 years) and a reading consultant (4 years). She retired from Bay City Public Schools in June of 2002, where she was director of state and federal programs for six years, and later retired from the Michigan Department of Education in June of 2004 after working part time there for two years. Noel implemented the 20 Minutes A Day program in the Bay City Schools, was a member of the Board of Directors for the Mosaic Learning Center, and volunteered in several literacy community initiatives. Truly, her professional life has focused on reading and voluntary involvement. Noel cherished her family, always looked forward to the annual family gathering every Labor Day at the cottage, and enjoyed frozen yogurt and shopping dates with Sophia.

Noel was married to Ronald W. Eichhorn on May 25, 1973 and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1990. She is survived by her special friend, Dennis Cull; two children, Scott Moore of Puerto Rico and Jeffrey Moore of Midland; four grandchildren, Kayla Noel Moore and her fiancé, Kyle Richards, Austin Moore, Parker (Jamie) Moore and Joshua Moore; two great grandchildren, Sophie and Declan; two sisters, Nancy (Dick) Richards and Carol (Jack) Divo; a brother, Robert (Carrie) Gray; a brother-in-law, Aaron Brookhouse; and many nieces and nephews. Noel was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph E. Moore in 1969; her daughter, Carrie Jo Moore; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Moore; a sister, Jeanne Brookhouse; and two brothers, Jack Gray and Donald Gray.

The Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020 at All Saints Parish, St. James Church. Fr. Jose Cabrera and Fr. Kevin Kerbawy will concelebrate. Private interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery.
