East Side Drive

Post by Mullen Family »

Has anyone tried this booster on East Side Drive down by the fire department? Part of me does not want to be found, but...

Given the interest shown on this thread, it looks to me like there's an opportunity here for someone on the island to explore the situation, test equipment and configurations, and do a little business on the side providing the service.

All these years I have boasted that I had a cabin so remote that I just couldnt receive cell service.. told that to my employees, my creditors and anyone else I didnt want to bother me when in exile....
Now it's gone... all gone... the horror, the horror

Actually, John, it's still more true that not. If it's very difficult to get cell phone service, bordering on nigh well impossible, then it's very difficult to get cell phone service, bordering on night well impossible.

Tom, have you tried it on the Island, yet! I, too, have the AT&T Microcell and will be bringing to the Island next week to try out. --Dwight

I got here a couple of days ago and hooked the MicroCell up to TDS broadband and it works great. I used to have no bars at the house but now I have 5 using an iPhone. I can even walk around in the yard and talk.

I just spoke with an AT&T rep yesterday about the Microcell (just came on the market in May). The cost is $150 from AT&T stores only with a $100 rebate right now. There is a 30 day return policy. You need DSL & a window with line of sight to the sky...no trees to interrupt signal. You need a 3G phone. Nine phones can be registered online with the microcell but only four phones can be on at one time.

I have never had any cell service at my house in PSJ. But I'm seriously considering looking into a microcell. Has anyone used a microcell in PSJ? Do I need a data plan on the phone with the microcell?

Thanks, Beth Croswhite

Beth,

I don't know if you need a data plan or not but I'm in PSJ and it works really well.

AT&T 3GMicroCell on Island

Post by DwightEarly »

All, I installed the microcell today. Works like a champ. I've made several calls today, and the persons I called reported VG connections.

The requirements are 1) internet access, 2) AT&T 3G capable phone and 3) in close proximity to a window to get a GPS fix for E911 capability. Oh...yes...and the $150 to purchase the unit which is very easy to set up. More info on the AT&T website: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/why/3gmicrocell/

Note: The rebate is for adding an unlimited calling minutes plan to the microcell which costs $20/mon. Since I have more rollover minutes than God has geese, I declined this generous AT&T offer (sic).
