George A. Anthony 81 of Traverse City, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 15, at 12 Noon at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlevoix. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will take place this spring in Holy Cross Cemetery on Beaver Island.

Fellow veteran and an all around good man. Very helpful when we established the special place at the Veterans Park to honor the Native Americans with ties to the island.

George A Anthony
George Albert Anthony, 81 of Traverse City died peacefully surrounded by his family on January 8, 2025. He was born November 2, 21943 in Manistique, the son of Amos and Eva (Gemmel) Anthony.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Pauline Mae (Kenwabikise) Anthony, children Andrew John (Catherine) Anthony, Amrena Eva (Karl) Kitchen, Angeline S. (David) Avis, Alec George (Katrina) Anthony, eight grandchildren, sisters Janice Tfooms, Evon Pearson, and Bernice Suhr and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Aaron Anthony, his parents, brother Donald and sisters Darlene Schoels and Margaret Mallory.
George was a proud United State Army veteran. He was a lifelong fisherman and loved to fish, sharing his passion with all who knew him. George was a hard worker and could do most things. By trade he was a plumber, a commercial fisherman, an appellate judge for the Little Traverse Band. In his later years he authored “The Elder Speaks”, a collection of stories from local tribal leaders.
He loved to watch his grandchildren play. He spent lots of time with them and often took them on trips out west and to Canada. He enjoyed going to Beaver Island often too.
