COA Bingo and other senior center activities

Post by COA Beaver Island »

Hello to all who utilize the Beaver Island Commission on Aging/Senior Center services provided by Charlevoix County. I am confident that all Commission on Aging staff truly miss each of you. Not seeing many of you in person at our various activities and centers throughout Charlevoix County and on Beaver Island is difficult for me. I do not think anything can replace that in person connection we form with each other.

I wanted to post a quick update on the forum about our July at home Bingo game and some upcoming events being planned for August.

On July 31, 2020 the Beaver Island COA/Senior Center will draw the July Bingo grand prize winner for a $30 gift certificate to Circle M. All Bingo winners throughout the month who have turned in their card for verification will be in the drawing. Don't forget to fill out the conversation starter on the back of your Bingo card from July. The month long Bingo game will continue in August and September. At the beginning of each month a new bingo card is available for the month and at the end of August and September a grand prize drawing will take place.

In August, the COA on Beaver Island and mainland will feature some Zoom activities. Beaver Island residents can participate in National Picnic Month activity, National Campfire day activity. These activities can be done at home by phone or via Zoom. Also the Beaver Island COA office has handout sheets for these activities.

Also in August the COA throughout Charlevoix County will feature a virtual travel club and phone pals. The travel club will feature a monthly destination where participants can learn about a different destinations around the world and in Michigan by travel links, videos, food recipes and more. All travel club questions can be directed to the Beaver Island COA by calling 448-2124 or calling the Charlevoix County COA main office at 231-237-0103.

Phone pals is a new program where participants can meet a COA client in Charlevoix County remotely. This new program is similar to having a pen pal. Be a phone pal and get to know another COA member from Beaver Island, Charlevoix, Boyne City or East Jordan. Anyone interested in learning more about the phone pals program may pick up registration forms or other information at the COA main office in Charlevoix or at the Beaver Island COA office.

I want to personally thank each COA client on Beaver Island who I have met so far. I truly appreciate the patience, understanding and kindness toward me as I settle in to my site coordinator position on Beaver Island. I look forward to the day we can congregate for a Sunday Dinner, activity or other programming provided by the COA.

Grace and peace,
Lonnie
