Fruit Box Update.

[COA Beaver Island]

The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan has provided the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging 90 immunity fresh fruit boxes. The COA has elected to provide all of these boxes to the Beaver Island aging adults first. We know there is nutritional insecurity in our county and we want to help with that when we can. The boxes of fruit are first come first serve and because of limited supply we will distribute 1 box per household with a resident 60 and older. Those planning to pick up boxes are asked to remain in their vehicle to limit physical contact. Each box contains 3# of whole fresh apples, 4# of whole fresh oranges and 3# of fresh pears.

We respectfully ask each resident age 60 and older to be present in the vehicle to receive a fresh food box. We cannot guarantee a box for all Beaver Island residents 60 and older, because of the limited supply. It is the intention of providing these free fresh fruit boxes to go to the most food insecure. Distribution will take place at 5 p.m. – weather and delivery permitting – on Tuesday June 2, at Island Airways parking lot. Please remain in your vehicle. We ask vehicles line up in a drive thru formation for easy distribution.

We understand some residents 60 and older may have a friend or family member pick up a box in their place. Those residents are asked to call the Beaver Island Senior Center at 448-2124 and speak to Lonnie Allen by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2. Calling ahead also will not guarantee a box as it is a first come first serve distribution. Further questions can be directed to Lonnie Allen at 448-2124.
