Re: Memorial Day
Keep memory and honor in Memorial Day. Thank you to all my fellow vets who have served, those currently serving and those who will take the oath to defend the Constitution and our country in the future. This day is about keeping the memory and honoring all those who gave their all for our country. Beaver Island played a large part of that sacrifice through out history. One can not help be get a tear in the eye whenever Alvin LaFreniere calls the roll of those from Beaver Island who gave their life in previous wars. This is the day to remember and honor those and all others. If you can't attend the ceremony on Monday, stop whatever you are doing, wherever you are at 11:00am and observe a moment of silence. It is the least we can do for those who made the sacrifice for the home of the brave and the land of the free.

For Vietnam vets, the sound of chopper blades coming over the harbor this morning was a flash back to, here comes reinforcements, here comes my medevac home or here they come with body bags of those who gave their all. This day is to honor all of the above in all wars and all causes. A time to honor all those who served and did not feign bone spurs when our country called.

It was a touching ceremony. Heartfelt and genuine, bringing home the real meaning of Memorial Day and made more so by the great turnout of people paying their respects.
