David had his endoscopy and colonoscopy done yesterday. They found a ulcer in his stomach (which would be the cause of his dark blood and clots) but they need to locate where the bright red blood that was causing the extreme blood volume he’s loosing, and they can’t find the source.
The colonoscopy showed he has hemorrhoids (which we knew about) but the gastronologist said there’s no way that the hemorrhoids could cause this much bleeding and cause his hemoglobin levels to decrease again as much as it did in the short amount of time. * when he came into the ER it was 6.2 The night after blood it got up to 8.1 and then back down to 7.1 that next morning. Very Late last night we got a little excited it got up to 8.8 after more blood but then it’s back down to 7.4 this morning. So pretty much after they stopped giving blood it just continued to decrease again. (Normal levels are 13.5-17.5)
So the gastronologist is thinking something is going on in his intestines in addition to the ulcer. So they want to do something called a capsule endoscopy, a pill camera he swallows which is the best way to show the inside of his intestines. They will also be doing a dye test (I have to get a little more information on what that entails)
As of now he’s not better. He lost a lot of blood on night 2 and 3. They had to give him another bag of blood because of his levels. Just from walking to the bathroom, steps away, his heart rate jumps into the 170s (as if he was sprinting a mile)
I spend most of my days here because he cant ask questions or advocate for himself very well, he’s very weak and tired. The blood helps a lot but after just a few hours he starts to not feel better again.
So for now we wait for the GI doctor to come in today to tell us the plan for the capsule endoscopy and the dye.
We are so very grateful for the friends and family who have sent their love and also donated. It means the world to us to have your support!
