looking for soil/dirt for garden

Post by LindaJane »

Hi everyone.

I'd like to get some soil for my garden. From where/whom do you gardeners get your dirt?

Depending on what kind of garden you are trying to make we have found that buying the older, more composted mulch from the transfer station is excellent. We filled all of our beds, quite large ones, with yards and yards of it and planted directly in it. Over the years it has continued to decompose and turned into soft, non compacted wonderful soil. In the beginning we would add topsoil, the bagged variety from the hardware, into a planting location when we needed more nutrient, and of course fertilize. A full dump truck of it delivered by the wonderful Daryl Butler is only $100.
