Good question, Pam

Post by medic5740 »

I think that this is a very good question, Pam. How is this meeting going to be different than the January one?

The major difference in this meeting is that our District 5 County Commissioner, Nancy Ferguson was unable to attend the January 19th meeting due to other County Commissioner schedule obligations. However, she has been actively seeking information for Beaver Island and would like to discuss not only what she has found out (in terms of budget revenues/expenses and potential funding sources), but the current and future needs as WE see them.

This is also an opportunity for us to define our priorities as they relate to Aging in Place and develop a plan to address them as a community, whether they are in line with what the COA is able to offer or not. Please come and share your thoughtsâ?¦after all, we are all aging!

I hope those of you on the island can make this important meeting. I would also like to thank all those individuals, on and off island, who have taken time to respond to previous posts requesting letters in support of senior services for island residents. As of this writing, the island has not received any reply from the county commissioners. Additionally, we have not heard how COA intends to service the island. Let's hear from Nancy Ferguson who is our island's county representative on the situation.

Thank you, Nancy Ferguson, for coming to Beaver Island today to talk with us, and to listen to us, as we talked together about what senior services are needed on Beaver Island. Hopefully, the discussion we had will prove beneficial for all concerned. Thank you, too, to the 40+ people who turned out to listen and voice their concerns.

It was nice that the 5th district Supervisor came to visit and hear the concerns and complaints of the Islanders.....Yet, if Richie had still been the local Supervisor, all concerned could have merely stood in front of his house with pitchforks and torches demanding he come out and face the music..... now that's real Local Representation

A huge â??thank youâ?￾ needs to go out to the Beaver Island community for turning out to the March 30 meeting with District 5 Charlevoix County Commissioner, Nancy Ferguson regarding the current and future needs of â??Aging in Placeâ?￾ and Senior services on Beaver Island. Multiple Township Board representatives, Island organizations, and concerned citizens attended to share their thoughts, concerns, ideas, and perceptions in an effort to seek mutual understandings and create solutions. This is the sort of vital dialogue that needs to be fosteredâ??and scheduledâ??on a more regular basis!

Thank you to everyone who participated, and please, continue to stay in touch and provide your input as ideas are explored and solutions sought!

Bolton, FYI, when I was on the c board this came up and rather than bother the people with it here I headed it off before it festered. I can assure you I would have done the same thing had it come up again! Rich

What is the annual Island and County budget for COA? Where does all the money come from and where is it all spent? Anyone have a link?

When you get all happy, excited and thankful that the County Commissioner that you elected actually comes to Beaver Island to discuss issues that affect Beaver Island----you might be from Beaver Island.

The following comments are from the County Commissioners' March 30th meeting and posted on the county website.

"Ferguson attended a meeting on Beaver Island where there were 42 persons in attendance concerning senior services on Beaver Island. Many letters have been received and they wanted a response from the County Board. Instead of a written response from the County Board to the letters Ferguson felt that her presence at todayâ??s meeting on the Island representing the County Board was the response from the Board."

Never much cared for "official responses".

Maybe the good people of Charlevoix county C.O.A. can tally up the yearly tax revenue from B.I. and promptly return it according to what each individual taxpayer has paid in??? With interest! E.

Much better for the County to have a "talk" rather than put anything in writing. Otherwise they might back to back up what was in print.
