Forum Fundamentals
Every time something "thorny" grows legs on this forum it seems to grown horns and warts and turns into discourse that none of us would share in a face to face discussion. I am usually very discouraged by the most educated of my contemporaries reducing their comments to the pitiful. YOU decide who you are but a higher education, I'm told, gives you the credentials and criteria to make a sensible argument, again, I am totally confused! I quit college because they changed my curriculum the day I arrived and it did not meet with my interests and I was homesick, or so I thought! I immediately moved to Detroit and worked there right at the bitter end of that city's true existence (1973 for those of you in wonder). Later I was conned into coming home by my beloved father who finalized a wonderful education in life. I couldn't trade it for anything but I do not understand how all of you think that this public forum that I had asked the other moderator to start for me who said he had one that wasn't being used, could be turned into such a spittoon for people to throw half truths and petty comments toward. There are days I think we should shut it down! If you want to show people how you feel and be unkind about it, start your OWN, please!! This was intended to share good thoughts and pleasant memories! I posted fairly recently that we have left our "Little Fishing Village" roots in more ways than one only to confuse some.........tried to do it reasonably. Thought I made a point but some see it that way and some don't. Thank God for the right to speak your mind! Please don't show your backside in an attempt to speak your mind! I had a call or two today from people that think this should be shut down, it is your choice! PLEASE consider the hurtful things that can be posted because you are not present. I have pretty much lost interest because its too easy to give people hell when they are not around. Consider if it were you, that's all I ask..............
There are two pawn shop reality shows on TV. One based in Las Vegas and one in Detroit. One based on showcasing the product, history and a unique style of doing business. The other based on bickering and fighting within the family, upset customers with potty mouths and bouncers who show up to throw people out, cussing all the way.
Each show have their followers. There will always be those that want to showcase the best of what the world has to offer. Invite you to be a part of it and share the happy place it takes you to. There will also be people that want to stir the pot and cause as much hurt to others as they can. There not happy and don't want anyone else to be happy. They think they know more than anyone and therefore they are alway right and everyone is just taking up space.
Once again we know who each of these people are on Beaver Island. I've met both in our seven summers on Beaver Island. The vast majority of people we meet are there to help and want to showcase the island. Then there are those you meet on the forum, filled with hate, hurt and revenge.
If someone has never been to the island they probably Google or Bing the term Beaver Island. During their research they find the Beaver Beacon Forum. Guess what...it's all over. Anyone in their right mind wouldn't spend a dime to visit this place. We've lost them before they even stepped off the ferry or reserved a seat on the plane.
Maybe we can have the best of both worlds. Keep this forum for the hated, hurt and revenge and have the BI Chamber start a new forum to showcase everything that is good and right about Beaver Island.

Very well said Kraig.
Richie, actually in the big picture the forum is growing in leaps and bounds and used by many. As the forum grew to ad a market place, it may be time to ad a political section or simply ban politics all together. As for the idiots that bash each other let them have it. It's been great entertainment for me. Kind of like those Reality T.V. Shows.
Thank you Richie for providing the forum and everything you and Bill do to keep it running. It is appreciated even though you may not hear it much.
Again, give Politics/Gov issues it's own page...or just ban politics. Please don't take away this great forum from the majority that use it properly.
