Good point! I'm not sure providers will discontinue use this Forum to announce visits in the best interest of their patients and the public. If any are not currently using this Forum, a call or e-mail to them explaining the petty decision by BIRHC not to use this Forum is harmful to Beaver Island in general. A point the BIRHC obviously doesn't care about. I'm also sure that regular people who do care about the health and welfare of Beaver Island will be most happy to post on this Forum when they know of a pending visit or activity.
Knowing first hand the incompetency of the BIRHC, I'm not surprised with the announcement. Would like to know if this was the unanimous decision by all BIRHC board members so we know if they float in the same boat relative to their lack of concern for BI health care.
Yes, BIRHC welcomes our tax dollars but that's obviously where their commitment to the public ends.

Perhaps you should find another source of health care if you feel the BIRHC provides such bad services and doesn't care for the taxpayers on Beaver Island. I mean let's forget the fact that Donna, Betty, Sue, Chris and Wendy go above and beyond to help people, cut down on our costs, find us the best treatment they can, continue to work for more and better services. Not to mention the pay cut physician assistants and nurse practitioners take when working there. Donna alone works hours that most people wouldn't even consider. Wendy meets you when you have a dental emergency. Chris and Sue are on call on holidays, weekends and late at night but they still aid you when you need it. Betty works hard to keep things running smoothly in the appointment book and the record room. But you're exactly right - their commitment to the public ends at tax dollars simply because they don't want to post on a forum with members that continually bash them! Shame on them!
I agree with Deb Robert, you will simply find anything you can to jump on because you're not happy if you're not making waves.
Are these words too "pointed" for you?

Not one word was spoken about anyone. NOT ONE! It was about getting the information to everyone and not discriminating putting our tax dollars to use for everyone. (Looked that up on my taxes 1.8 ) It is also a MEDICAL CENTER our medical center and about the best medical care and information for EVERYONE! Key words. It is you who posts this kind of garbage that makes it hard to have a discussion or make things better because you are so wrapped up in the who not the job or the about. Also you are not a tax payer! I also sent an email to the board about this after it was posted that it would not be a good idea. I in no form pointed fingers at anyone as you did, was mean, or angry. I was just recently told that if you point a finger, 3 are left pointing back at yourself. Think that over. Education and learning and proper discussions are not a crime.

This was Connie Wojan's complete response to Pam Grassmick.
Our Board likes the guiding principles of the new Chamber message board. As a health care institution, we feel we should avoid political controversy. Since the " kinder , gentler " message board is part of the Chamber of Commerce website which is a well established, heavily used, and professionally managed site, we feel it is worth a try to post Health Center information there. We will carefully monitor the success of / traffic on the new message board and make a final decision as to whether to permanently discontinue using the Beaver Island Forum at our June board meeting. Many people have told me they no longer go to the Forum because of the negativity there. Just my experience.
We will continue to communicate with the community via the Beacon, the Northern Islander, Joe Moore's site and new road signage planned for installation this summer.
Thanks for you concern,
Connie

Thank you for the reply to this topic. I hope that the medical center will also see this forum as an established and well run public outlet for information. It has been for many years thanks to Bill and Jeff. I am for using all places to get information out especially this kind of information. Myself and many do not agree that the Chamber site is the proper place for our daily news of Dr. visits and such but worth a try if they want to do it. The chamber is a place for new persons and I have found that no other chamber has this kind of information. Possibly they should look into why they don't have this kind of message board. However, it will pick up their daily numbers but will dilute the real information of who is looking at the site. Good Luck to them. Once again thank you for a solid response. We will look forward to your information in June and hope that in the mean time BIRHC uses both.

One may go directly to the Message Board http://beaverisland.org/board without going to the Chamber home page. Also you can read it without registering if you wish. Currently great info about a Golden Eagle sighting, cool video, Citizen of the Year and some new photos on Friends of Beaver Island Facebook are part of 28 topics created in just a few days. Everyone is welcome. Best wishes to all.

Thank you for posting Connie's response. I'm attempting to figure out the BIRHC logic and thought process in making this decision. I'm not being critical but do want to allow the public to form their own opinions on this decision. If I extrapolate what your decision was based on then is it safe to assume if the NI prints something you feel to be "political controversy" in nature or if people, unsubstantiated, tell you they no longer go to the NI because of "negativity there", will the BIRHC stop using the NI to inform the public about BIRHC critical health activities?

Donna or Connie -
Will you please provide me with the details of the Open Meeting for BIRHC when the BOARD made the decision that Connie states in her response to Pam.
The language I have in question is: "Our BOARD likes the guiding principles of the new Chamber message board. As a health care institution, WE feel WE should avoid political controversy." These are inclusive statements that would lead one to believe that the BOARD was involved in making and passing the decision.
Again, just need the details of the Open Meeting where these decisions were made. Consider this an advanced FOIA request which will be followed up with an e-mail.

I do believe that the BIRHC has our best interests at heart and they enjoy my full support and gratitude.
With all due respect, there may be a concern about no longer posting to this forum.
Is it true that the Chamber message board may not allow all to use it? If someone is determined to be negative or political they may be removed from the message board, correct? If said person(s) are not subscribers to Joe Moore's News on the Net, the Northern Islander nor the Beaver Beacon, would they still have free, convenient access to BIRHC news?
Am I missing something?
