Charity that helped EmmaLee Antkoviak needs our help now!

Post by Shirley Cole »

I don't usually promote things that do not immediately affect or benefit the island community directly, but am making an exception in this case. A colleague of mine lost his 19-month old daughter due to heart issues that could not be overcome. As a result, he began a charity in her memory to assist other families dealing with sick children. His charity was INSTRUMENTAL in financially securing the house in Grand Rapids for the Antkoviak/Belfy family as they attend to little EmmaLee's medical needs. Without going into dollar specifics, he essentially wiped out his charity's account to help provide six months rent upfront as the landlord required, then went into his own pocket to provide a brand new Wii fit system and balance board for Emmy to practice her physical therapy and rehabilitation. He is organizing his 3rd Annual Golf Scramble at the Morrison Lake Golf Course in Ionia, scheduled for September 25th at 9am (8am registration). It's $40 a head or $80 a team (of 2) (limited to the first 36 teams), and includes a banquet dinner and cash prizes, as well as door prizes and other gift certificates. Hole Sponsorships are $75. I would love to see some Beaver Island support for this effort in whatever way could be offered. If you can play some golf, GREAT! If you can provide some decent door prizes or gift certificates, SUPER! If you can make a cash donation, AWESOME! All proceeds are redirected to families in need who have children suffering from medical issues (such as EmmaLee), and truly is a worthwhile cause. Please contact me directly if you would like further details or are able to help on ANY level with this effort. Thanks ~ Shirley Cole (616) 915-2501

Shirley I am going to see if we have anything going on that weekend. I am not much of a golfer but Tim and a friend of ours may be able to make it. Is there anything that I could help with if we are available, that doesn't include golfing?? This sounds like a great benefit and would definitely like to help the man that helped out a great family in their time of need. Thanks for posting this and I must reiterate Shirley request that people from Beaver Island would help...that is what we are all known for!

I am gathering a "weekend getaway" package for use as one of the prizes for the golf tournament. The Lodge will sponsor two holes in the tournament and we have donated two nights lodging and two one way Island Airways tickets, Dalwhinnie and the Shamrock have donated gift certificates. If anyone would like to add to the package please call me or stop by the Lodge. Thank you.

Brian Cole has donated one of his beautiful handmade cedar six foot picknick tables for an auction item. We need to transport it to Grand Rapids. If anyone will be up for Labor Day that has a vehicle big enough to haul it back please contact Ray Cole at 231-448-2396. Thank you.
