Avian Influenza

Post by Pam Grassmick »

People have been inquiring about the status of Avian Influenza around Beaver Island. Jennifer Kleitch from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has provided this information. Should you find a dead bird, you should avoid handling any sick or dead wild birds, but if it is necessary to move a dead bird, use a plastic bag or shovel to do so and wash your hands thoroughly after. You may also report them to Jennifer Kleitch who can offer guidance. Jennifer mentioned that she has been working in Northern Michigan with “dead eagles in for testing all week, and the disease can affect many bird species.”
