Garage fire:

Post by Dick and Amy »

Garage fire:
I was laying in bed around 11:00 PM and thinking about trying to sleep. Amy came in and said, I just put out a fire in the garage.
She said she was sitting in the living area listening to music, and had glanced out the window and saw flames shooting out around the sliding garage door. And announced that the fire was out.
I bounced out of bed with undies and put on a pair of shoes and slipped into a pair of pants and whet to check what had happened.
Here she was with the garden hose spraying the smoking areas that were puffing smoke. The pickup was out of the garage with the sliding door laying on the front and cab, and Amy was still spraying the smoky areas.
She had charged out the door by herself to take care of the situation. Amy tried and couldn't slide the door open, as it had plastic rollers that melted into the track, and permanently glued the door in place. Being a "git-er-done" person, she went around to the service door, went across to the truck; climbed in, started the engine, through the it into reverse, and backed out through the closed door. She left it setting just outside the burning structure, with the door resting on top. She grabbed the hose and continued dousing the different burning spots. I was so impressed that she would do these necessary things by herself; not one in a thousand people would employ this scenario, that was so crucial in controlling the onset of the fire. ¿Was I married to a spectacular woman, or what? I was never so proud of her!
There was a huge cable running through the garage that supplied the house with power, This had kept the house, and especially the water pump working to supply much needed water that night. All of the 110volt circuits in the shop were fried. Of course the phone lines were the first to go as they were just above the initial flames.
Amy told me she had the fire out and not to bother the fire department, but I had witnessed many fires, and their residual persistence in holding live hotspots. So I took her Jeep and found a (party going on) with cell phones, to call the fire department. Twenty minutes later they were taking over, and they did a great job of finishing the necessary task of completely subduing the fire.

Wow! Good on Amy. You both are lucky to have each other. My third wife backed through the garage door. The only difference being there was no fire.  :D :D :D
