I have no idea who Eric Ellis is but, all I know is what he wrote is exactly what all the wildlife biologists for the Ruffed Grouse Society and the many other wildlife agencies advocate.
Mr. Ellis, very well written! I think if people can understand that having a diverse forest makes for a healthy forest we could really move mountains and make Beaver Island the place that we all really want it to be. In order for hunters, hikers, bird watchers and wildlife lovers in general to be able to enjoy a diverse landscape we have to have some manmade interruptions in the ecosystem. In the long term it will create a much more beautiful island.
Thanks again Eric. I learned quite a bit from your article.

You can see our incorporateion and tax status at http://www.dleg.state.mi.us/bcs_corp/sr_corp.asp Just type in our name "Beaver Island Conservation Club". Click on the name and it has all the info on our status with the state. In addtion to being a certified No Profit wit the state we have filed all 501 (c) (3) paperwork with the IRS, and received confirmation of acceptance from them. It will take them several more months to issue "final determination" of our status. It is anticipated well before the 2010 tax season concludes.
