This is a perfectly fine example of getting exactly what you voted for.

I asked the question a while back and still no one seems to know or wants to share the information (as usual)

"What is the annual Island and County budget for COA? Where does all the money come from and where is it all spent? Anyone have a link?"

One member of the community emailed me and stated they believed the COA budget for the Island is about $75,000. But they could not provide information as to where specifically those dollars come from or go to.

Seems to me that maybe a private organization of community groups, Human Services Commission, volunteers, churches etc should be able to replicate those services to the elderly pretty easy. Then it would also allow local control. Do you really need Charlevoix involved? Just a thought.

I tried to find the budget on the Charlevoix COA page but the have not updated it since 2012. (Must be relatives to some of the Island illustrious leaders)

Adam-This was a post by Bob Tidmore back in February: Beaver Island sends a bunch of money to Charlevoix County for Seniors. My analysis of the taxes paid show we send $74,705 for the Council On Aging services and $86,198 for Grandview in East Jordan for a total of $160,903. Our 2013 census shows a population of 610, which means we send $263 per person to the mainland.

Also don't forget to also send an email to our County Commissioner Nancy Ferguson.

I would suggest contacting Nancy Ferguson, Shirley Gillespie, Executive Director, or Jean Kinsley 448-2856 for specific budget questions.

As I have been told, the Community Center's administration of "Dining Out" vouchers and community meals is paid through a federal program. So adding up all the pieces is a little complicated.
