One of Beaver Islands' most colorful and beloved characters has left us. Phil Gregg died mid morning today April 30, 2009. He was surrounded by all of his children, Ron arrived late last night. Phyllis and Ruth were here. They along with their mother were all by his side at Phils passing. Funeral arrangements are being discussed and will be posted by family members as they come available.

An outstanding gentleman! ..... He was a WW II vet who put country, family and Beaver Island first.

A wonderful man! He will be missed.

We will all miss Phil very much. We enjoyed hearing his stories of when he first came to the island - and were lucky enough to see his slide show of those days. He always had a smile on his face and a friendly hello and wave. A great guy - we'll truly miss him.

Very sad to hear this news -- Phil will surely be missed by all. He was such a wonderful part of the Island in so many ways, from my earliest memories of the Marina across the street to later in life when he generously helped me with a woodworking project that I couldn't fit tight enough on my own. I love finding his legendary Beaver Tales when looking back at the archived Beacons - reading one always gives me a smile. And I'll miss him every time I'm standing on the point waiting for a Schooner to set sail or come in from the horizon.

My deepest condolences and sypathy at Phil's passing. He was always a good friend and supportive of me during my time on the island. May he be experiencing God's love and presence and may God help Lil and the family to keep alive the happy memories until they are joined again in the Kingdom. Fr. Gabe
