Water well

Good morning. Forgive me if I use the wrong terms. I’m from an urban area and wells are a bit of a mystery. At our north end summer home, we’ve had some real problems with water pressure and sometimes no water. We were recently told that it’s a “well point, “ which I think means shallow, very old, not worth fixing. It was suggested that we get a deep well. Any insights? Cost is a concern
