Hemingway Sculpture Missing

Post by BIDL »

Over the weekend, the art installation in front of the Library (an 8+ foot tall orange steel sculpture) was apparently stolen. Art theft, vandalism, or ill-advised prank? That remains to be seen.

Maybe this was just a case of poor late-night decision making that can be easily undone by returning the sculpture to its place on its cement pad and bolting it back down. As we don't have security cameras, we would not be able to identify someone returning it after hours, and life would go on as if it had never been taken. That is, from our standpoint, the ideal resolution.

We have not yet involved the police, and we hope we don't have to. Spread the word. The sculpture needs to be returned one way or the other, and as soon as possible. If anyone should happen across it in their travels on the island, please let us know and we will have it retrieved. To reiterate, the only thing we're concerned with is restoring the sculpture to its place, and as long as that happens there is no reason the police should be involved.

That is just wrong! Whomever pulled this stunt please return the sculpture! What will you do with it if not?? Hopefully boat company personnel can keep an eye out as they load vehicles, what else could be done! Not good!
