The cam is now operational and Beaver Island has already been featured. Now viewers will see Beaver Island hundreds of time each year providing tens of thousands of dollars worth of great Beaver Island images annually.
The full range of pan is over 300 degrees and takes in Main Street in both directions.
A link to the TV SkyCam and others is at the top of the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Guide. www.BeaverIsland.org The web site is now on target for about 200,000 visitors this year.
Thanks go to Island Airways for providing round trip air for a technical team to set up the Skycam and to Jim Wojan and Darrell Butler for their help in mounting the camera structure.
With Dish Network now carrying 9&10 again we hope to see Beaver Island on the evening news often. The east facing camera provides a great early shot for the morning shows on 9&10 followed by Fox 32.
The webcam should help boaters coming to Beaver. It will show the vacancies in the public marina. Letting boaters know about the webcam should work better than a reservation system.
Am I to assume the "tens of thousands of dollars worth of great Beaver Island images annually.", is the empty slips at the marina and not the more popular and appealing lighthouse view? I keep banging on my computer screen but can't get the 300 degrees and Main Street to come into focus.
I didn't think I would ever be defending the Chamber but let's wait and see those "money shots" as the camera pans. The bigger question is how one determines the actual value being "tens of thousands of dollars". Maybe the Chamber can let us know how they will track those figures. Will they equate to those dollars coming to BI?
