Once again, on the Feast of Saint Patrick, Beaver Island can tip it's hat to an important member of the family, the ferry "South Shore". At 62 years young, she still proudly bears the shamrock emblem on her stack as she rests in Chicago after many long years of faithful service to the Island. One of the very first builds at the end of WWII, her hull design was revolutionary and one of the very first all steel hulled carferries built on the Lakes. Three long and two short to the Daughter of Saint Patrick, the "South Shore"!

We'll hoist a pint in celebration of her 62nd birthday today Cap! The way she's built she may be around for a lot longer than the rest of us!!
