2nd Annual Beaver Island Celtic Games

Post by piper »

On behalf of the Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums, I would like to thank the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce and Jeremy McBain for inviting us, and for organizing (and sponsoring) the 2nd Annual Beaver Island Celtic Games.

We are sending 3 pipers (myself included) a drummer and a dancer with the hopes of helping these Games to grow and prosper.

The warm hospitality of the Beaver Islanders is legendary and we are anticipating a wonderful weekend.

Thanks again!

The Games

Post by Chamber of Commerce »

Thanks for the kind words Piper! :D The games were started last year by Jeremy and the Historical Society. This is the first year as a Chamber event. It may be a little laid back this year but will develope like our Bite of Beaver Island on Oct 7. We hope that in a few years early Sept will be "the time" to visit the Island for a full fledged Celtic fest. Don't miss this years games Sat 9-16.

Best wishes from The Island

Timmer Wearn will be doing his bit to represent Beaver Island in the games. He will be sporting the IRISH STANDARD tartan on his kilt!

Looking forward to it. Last year was a whole lot of fun to watch, and this year should be even better now that the word is out.

The athletes will be leaving Charlevoix on the 2:30 boat. They will arrive around 4:30 p.m. Friday

The Scottish are coming...the Scottish are coming...

(Hey, at least they aren't the English or Mormons.)

To give you an example of what you might see this weekend, I was asked by "Timmer" to meet at the gravel pit so he could select a stone for the athletes to use in one of the events. We searched for a stone weighing 200 to 250 pounds and finally settled on one that would appear to weigh as much. He left with it (after putting it in the car himself) and later saw me to report that it was over 300 pounds on the scale!!!!!!!!!! I might miss it for reasons to be told, but if you can attend, you should, and Jeremy, no bumperstickers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks very much for posting the official results.

The spectators may not have been as many in number as last July, but the athletes were great and it was a lot of fun to watch.

Steve - Vic's tape will air on the 6 o'clock news on 9&10 today? Look forward to seeing his footage too!
