Methods of heating

Having visited the island for the first time in 25 years, I
re-discovered why I loved it so much in my youth. Luckily my wife fell in love with it as well and we are purchasing some property with the intent of retirement away from the "world".
Currently we are beginning to plan our dream log home and I'm considering methods of heating the house. I'm leaning torward radiant heat from a hydronic source and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this method of heating. My tentative plan is to use a wood fired external boiler for this purpose, but I'm concerned about time spent away visiting relatives in the winter. How will I provide heat to keep everything from freezing while we are gone for a week or two at a time?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve
