Internet on the Island?

Post by toolguy454 »

We are coming up for our annual vacation to the Island.

This year I need internet access with my own computer.

What options do I have other than dialup to the mainland?

Thanks in advance!

There is wireless hotspot in and close to the Library you can use if your notebook has a wireless card - 1 to 1.5 Mbps I believe.

You could signup for a gtlakes.com local dialup account at $16.99/month which could be cheaper than the long distance.

That's all I can think of since both faster satellite options (wildblue and direcway) require a couple hours of labor to install equipment at the location and annual or bi-annual contracts to cover the cost of equipment; great for residents out of town now but not much good for those coming to the Island only once a year.
