As a Beaver Island native and taxpayer I wish to bring some very interesting facts to the Beaver Island community relating to the Rural Health Centerâ??s Board. All grievances should be addressed to either â??Clerk of the Court, Charlevoix County; 203 Antrim; Charlevoix MI 49720,â? or to â??Attorney General, State of Michigan; 525 West Ottawa; Law Building â?? 7th Floor; Lansing MI 48913.â?
Some of the actions by Board members are :
1.) documented in the August 2003 issue of the Beaver Beacon, such as Joe Reedâ??s letter to the editor contains an admission to making a slanderous statement directed towards Susan Meis in front of scores of members of the community.
2.) Board memberâ??s unprofessional conduct is documented: he stated that the public was not invited to that Open Meeting.
3.) At the July 15th BIRHC meeting the community requested information about Meisâ??s non-renewal. The Board stated that was not public information and their decision was final. This is contrary to the Opinions of the Attorney General, page 19 of the Freedom of Information Act under #22, which reads in part Evaluations prepared by individual members of a board are subject to disclosure.
4.) Several drafts were submitted to the public for review and were adopted by the Board at the August 19th Open Meeting. One such draft proposal makes reference to volunteer Board members are to financially support the BIRHC as a condition of being a Board member.
