Hunters and anglers spend time in the field and on the water in areas where invasive species have some of the greatest negative impacts. All outdoor recreation enthusiasts, particularly hunters and anglers, are bearing the brunt of those negative impacts but also have a history of collaborating effectively to conserve Americaâ??s outdoor heritage.
The Beaver Island Association is pleased to have Eric Ellis as a guest speaker at its Get A Grip on Invasives Summit on June 14, 2012 at the Community Center. Eric will be speaking about the threat Invasives present to hunting and game on the island and what hunters can do to help fight their spread.
Eric Ellis is a native Michigander who received his BS in Resource Ecology and Management from The University of Michigan. He later lived in Mongolia working with the Peace Corps as a parks/wildlife volunteer and guiding fly fishing and horse riding trips. Back in the US he was the crew leader for the City of Ann Arborâ??s Natural Area Preservation division before moving to the University of Idaho where he completed a MS degree at the College of Natural Resources. Eric now works in Traverse City Michigan managing the Conservation Resource Allianceâ??s Wild Link program. Eric works with private landowners and other partners to protect and restore fish and wildlife habitat in northern Michigan. He is primarily focused on sustainable timber management of private lands, promoting the planting of native flora, invasive species removal, improving early successional forest habitat and maintaining the ecological integrity of rivers, streams, and riparian corridors.

Please join us for this important event to learn more about the threat Invasives present to all island residents.
