Commission on Aging Situation

Please review the attached document from Jack Messer, Director of the Commission on Aging, to the Charlevoix County Commissioners regarding the urgent need to address the financial viability of senior services in Charlevoix County. Commissioner Rich Gillespie and Joan Vyse met with the Beaver Island Human Services Commission today to discuss the situation. The report is also available on the News on the net.

An invitation to the island community: December 13th from 6-8 p.m. at the St James Township Hall â?? from the COA Advisory Board for feedback and an information gathering session regarding COA programs and services. Information about the alternatives that the COA Executive Director is presenting to the County Commissioners and addressing opportunities and challenges.

No date change, a meeting reminder: Tuesday, December 13th from 6-8 p.m. at the St. James Township Hall with Jack Messer and members of the Commission On Aging Advisory Board. The meeting is intended to discuss results from focus groups and gather reactions, ideas, and suggestions regarding the alternatives being considered by the Commissioners given the current and future operating budget of the COA.

The Nov. 29, 2011 Petoskey News Review (pg 1 & 10) says the purpose is to find out what the public thinks about the following questions" Should the county seek a senior millage renewal or increase? If an increase how much? If further cuts are needed to fill the budget gap, which services should be preserved and which should be considered for elimination first."

So think about how you feel about these questions let your voice be heard at the meeting tonight.
