High cost of home heating - outside wood boiler option

Anyone else thinking of how high fuel prices are going to get? I have been checking into outside wood boilers. They can be plumbed right into your existing furnace or used with radiant floor heat systems. With an outside boiler the ash and related mess stays outside and your insurance rates remain low. I am going to buy one and spoke to a manufacture who said if I can get an order for three, they will give a good discount. If you are interested give me a call. Dana,
We had an outside wood furnace in our old house. It was enough to heat a 24x32 home with a basement, as well as a 30x 50 wood frame garage (front half- workshop area). We only needed to "feed" the fire once every 24 hours.. definately a good investment! Oh, and our hot water too!!

Michelle, Thanks for the info. The brand we are looking at is www.centralboiler.com they have some really fgreat options such as the ability to burn propane or fuel oil in the furnace if you are away.

Dana, I bought a boiler this summer built in Big Rapids which was the best deal I have found. I will post the name of that company when I can remember!

Another company that contacted me during an inquiry was:

Jack Middleton
5081 East Martin Lake Rd.
Gaylord, MI 49735
middleto@pop.freeway.net

(here is his note to me)

I am a Hardy wood furnace dealer. I live between Elmira and Gaylord. Hardy forwarded your inquire to me.

Attached is the price list for our furnaces. I would recommend the 180,000 BTU H-5 model in you situation it will heat up to 5,000 sq feet. The H-3 would adequate it is a 3,000 sq ft model. I will deliver the stove free and help you for the day of delivery.

They are great units I have had mine for 8 years and it has kept us warm and with out the gas bills for heating and hot water.

If you want to see a unit or get a price quote on the pipes and heat exchanger(if you need one)to get the furnace operational I would be happy to talk with you.

Thanks!

Jack

Rich, Let me know the name of your boiler when you remember it. The more one researches this subject the more difficult the choice becomes! A plumbing and heating specialist is telling me a pressurized system is the only way to go due to its ability to stop corrosion and rust which will happen in an open system. And of course all the warranty's are pro-rated so.... I am also finding out about an outdoor wood gasification unit which is said to be very efficient.
