Anytime you bring an outside police agency into any community it's a recipe for conflict. I have no problem with the state police coming here on an as needed basis, but that call should be Jim Campbell's and Jim Campbell's alone to make. If he needs help he should be able to ask for it, and we should support him in his decision. By the way, it's interesting to note that the presence of five outside officers on Beaver Island is roughly the equivilent of the outside police manpower deployed to Benton Harbor during the riot that town experienced a couple of years ago. Overkill? You do the math.

Very good point John, instead of throwing their weight around in all cases, they should ask the local man in charge how he would like them to proceed. All the MSP did was hang a pawl over the entire weekend.
