Cherry Capital Connection, LLC (CCC)

CCC would like to Thank the many people from Beaver Island that assisted us in developing a grant application during the round 1 ARRA application process. Although the application was not successful it clearly defined that there is a need for competition on the Island. We disagree with the reasons the USDA rejected the application and we hope that the options on the Island regarding telecommunication improve.

On another note: CCC has submitted a $13.5 million dollar grant during round 2 with the help of a grass-roots citizens group from Elk Rapids. We invite you to visit their web site http://er-bam.net. Although this grant does not directly effect Beaver Island, we did want to pass along that CCC continues to bring broadband services to the area. This group has decided to promote economic growth through maximizing broadband usage.

We are still very interested in providing a level of competition for the Island. Since we do not get federal assistance we rely on local support to make things happen. At this point we have no direct plans other then to continue to develop the market and try to create a new opportunity.

We/I look forward to some day doing regular business on Beaver Island. Any feedback or guidance is appreciated

Idea for consideration

Communities in the CCC service region are incorporating wi-fi into their economic strategy. Example: There is a new ad campaign for Elk Rapids called ER your turn. It will feature complementary wi-fi and a multiple media presentation similar to mackinaclive.com. Wi-Fi, Hotspots and elkrapidslive.com will be a great combination.

Tim and all--

I'd like to thank you for helping Beaver Island get things moving forward. It is quite unlikely that the DSL would have been put in place if a possible competitive company had not been formed and had not applied for the stimulus funds. Although there are other opinions on this, you have my thanks for your efforts, and whether or not you were paid for your time, I think you gave the Island a wonderful gift of competitiveness that got us where we are right now.

Unfortunately, no one in the BI corporation knew of the previous preparations of TDS, but there still needs to be some competition in my mind.

Thanks again,
Joe Moore

competition is good but must be real to generate long term results.
we encourage full island wifi to create a dynamic environment for new economic development. we continue with our round 2 efforts and are positioned to bring high speed wifi to beaver island. cell phone over broadband, most phones utilize wifi, on demand access away from your home and throughout the region (mobile broadband access), netflixs, just some new applications available.

Cherry Capital Connection has been appointed to the Michigan Public Service Commission - Coalition Broadband Committee and has been appointed as the Michigan Director of the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association. Both positions are focused on broadband adoption efforts. We are pleased to be an active participant in helping the Michigan Economy grow through broadband initiatives. You are encouraged to visit the web site http://connectmi.org site for continued updates on the MI efforts to map broadband assets. The C.C.C. business plan still includes Beaver Island and we are hopeful that the proper business opportunity will surface during 2012.
