Glen McDonough

Glen McDonough passed away last Thursday. Richie Gillespie wrote the following tribute for Eleanor, Glen's wife:

Glen Mac From Beaver Isle
Richard Gillespie
In Fondest Memory of Glen McDonough 1934-2004

He was born a happy blond haired boy,
On Americaâ??s â??Emerald Isleâ?￾
He made good friends and spread much joy,
Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

It was on a dreary August day when the shades of life came down,
A lorry load of angels playing violins to take him home.
His family stood all round his bed but none could bear to smile,
They were saying farewell to this Irish man, Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

As a younger boy he learned his trade from a man he loved so dear,
Jewell â??Ketâ?￾ taught Glen much about life, and what and not to fear.
He always said that man named Jewell was his dearest friend,
And now theyâ??ve joined together again, Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

His passing broke so many hearts but most for Pat and â??Myrtâ?￾,
Itâ??s hard to measure the sadness they feel and how they both must hurt.
The kindness of a man like Mac only happens once in a while,
He was that good, this special man, Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

He learned to play Irish songs quite well and always wore a smile,
Glen, â??Cook,â?￾ Dan and Edward too, toes tapping on the tile.
And all his friends would clap and sing and dance about the room,
He carried the tunes that made us proud, Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

Beaver Island men are getting scarce, the horizon growing dim,
But we all take comfort in the luck we had for having known of him.
And now he sits upon angels wings as if a newborn child,
We thank you God for a chance to know, Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

And when we all gather round again, weâ??ll hear him play a tune,
For now weâ??ll miss the man and his style, he left us far too soon.
But weâ??ll always have our memories of,
Glen Mac from Beaver Isle.

This tribute is written to the tune of Sean South, Glenâ??s Favorite Song
SEAN SOUTH
[D]It was on a dreary new year's eve,when the[G]shades of night came[D]down.

I was curious, were you related to Glen? I am a McDonough and was also wondering how he may or may not be related to me. I could only assume a distant cousin or so. Thanks!

Glen's dad, Bill and my grandfather, Bert, were brothers.
