The most important concept of becoming the Number 20 sanctuary in the world is that our existence creates a new awareness about the phenomenal rarity of truly dark skies that remain light pollution-free. We now have the responsibility and the power to educate more broadly across the world that light pollution is preventable, that there are solutions, and that preserving dark skies is crucial to the survival of many species and beneficial to all.
