Not to be confused with bearberry. A native plant with red berries that are enjoyed by bears….if we had bears here.

Yes, bearberry berries are also a favorite of many species of birds on the island. Bearberry doesn't have the needle like thorns along the stems either.

Sad to hear that it too has arrived! Also be on the lookout for burning bush. There are several planted in the memorial garden at the medical center and I've already pulled a few seedlings that were in the woods there. Easy to find in the Fall when it turns brilliant pink or crimson. Medical center should remove them.
