Melvin George Napont
Melvin G. “Poncho” Napont, 77 of East Jordan and formerly of Beaver Island, died July 19, 2023 at Villa at the Bay in Petoskey. He was born May 15, 1946 in Manistique, the son of Bernard and Agnes (Nanagaw) Napont.

Poncho loved the great outdoors. He was a hard worker and cut, split and delivered firewood for many years. He enjoyed wood working in general too. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

On July 2, 2005 he married Alvina Cornstalk Napont who survives. Also surviving are his stepchildren Brian (Diane) Anthony of Boyne City, Teresa (Favian) Wabanimkee of South Haven, Daneen (Anthony) of Bay Shore, brother Clifford Napont of Charlevoix, sisters Mary Ann Boulton of Charlevoix Rita Blacklock of Metro Detroit, twin sister Marilyn Napont of Petoskey, several step grandchildren, lots of nieces and nephews, and many good friends on Beaver Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents who raised him George and Hattie Nanagaw, brothers Ralph and Richard Napont, step children Daryl James Anthony, Donzell Rasch, and Donnie Anthony.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22 at 1 p.m. at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Fr. Peter Wigton officiation. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. and again from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
