Protein at the Food Pantry

Post by lvietzen »

St. James Episcopal Church on Beaver Island is blessed each summer with many fun events and with hosting several visiting priests. Each of them brings something new and interesting to our congregation. This summer we met the Reverend Christian Baron, co-founder of Naucratius, Co-Rector of St. Philip’s Beulah, his wife, the Reverend Jodi Baron, most avid “behind-the-scenes” supporter of the Order of Naucratius – West Michigan (ONWM), Co-Rector of St. Philip’s Beulah, and their three lovely young daughters.
So what is the Order of Naucratius? It’s a network of individuals (religious and otherwise) in The Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan, who state as their mission: We believe that hunting and fishing are sacred activities, and with that premise, our goal is to help connect local hunters and anglers who have harvested in abundance with people who are hungry. The primary way we accomplish this goal is through encouraging local anglers and hunters to share portions of their harvests with those who are hungry through local programs and churches who are engaged in feeding people.
The Barons loved Beaver Island (who wouldn’t) and showed their appreciation by donating the last of ONWM’s (frozen) fish for 2019 to the Beaver Island Food Pantry, located in Gregg Hall at the Christian Church. Rev. Christian says that ONWM will now move into its venison season. He expects next year’s fish season to be even better than 2019 (which was great) and says that if the people of the Island want and use the fish, there will be more.
You can follow St. James Episcopal, ONWM, and Beaver Island Christian Church on Facebook.

Where/whom would need to be contacted to donate a field dressed deer? Who is volunteering to process donated game? TIA

I think it’s Judi Meister. The Christian Church has information on its website http://bichristianchurch.com/?page_id=395
