Caller Keith Kintigh leads dances to the tunes of the Cut Finger Band! St. James Episcopal Church, 7pm June 28th. Never tried contra dancing? That's ok! Come to the beginner lesson at 6:30. Family friendly, all ages and skill levels welcome. Free event, however donations are appreciated to help cover costs and keep the dances going.

Contra is a social dance that one can attend without a partner. The dancers form couples, and the couples form sets in long lines starting from the stage and going down the length of the dance hall. Throughout the course of a dance, couples progress up and down these lines. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts.

Sounds like a fun social function with exercise as a side benefit. My fear is if the caller says to start out on the right foot, I'm sunk. I have two left feet and rhythmically challenged. I'm the only guy asked to leave or sit down at Jerry's when the dancing started. I might come and give a try anyway. I'll be the guy with one good eye and wearing two left shoes. :-) :-)
