Fox Lake and Lake Geneserath – public access sites

Overnight boat storage is no longer permitted at the public access sites on Fox Lake and Lake Geneserath (or any other township recreation sites) and any boats currently stored at those sites must be removed by July 1, 2018.

In making it decision, the Peaine Township Board noted that storage of boats on these sites interferes with the public’s use. The Board also noted that the 66’ wide easement at Fox Lake provides for ingress and egress but does not provide for boat storage and that many boats are left on adjoining properties. Similarly, the Board does not expect that the lease currently being negotiated with the Michigan DNR will provide for boat storage at Lake Geneserath.

After July 1, 2018, township employees will transport any boats from those sites to the Peaine Township Hall. Owners may retrieve their boats from the hall without charge.

Hello Shipwrecked Islanders,
Since "storage" has been in the public domain at Lake Geneserath and the other lakes since time immemorial, perhaps other alternatives could be considered for those who do not own a trailer. Transporting a boat 12 plus miles to and from the lake late at night or early A.M is problematic for seniors, avid fisherpersons and campers. No one complained when the lodges, The bait and tackle shop or CMU stored their watercraft there. How about storage racks ala Barney's lake. They could be rented annually for a fee which would help maintain the launch sites.
Soon to be Marooned,
Pat B.
