Early in June, sixteen Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) traps were placed with the assistance of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) along with Ed and Beth Leuck. The EAB traps were removed from ash trees on September 11, 2017 and we are happy to report that the EAB was not detected on the traps. The equipment and traps are being returned to the MDARD. It is anticipated that EAB traps will be placed in 2019. A special thank you to the EAB trap removal crew-Ed Leuck and Alan Vicstein. So far the quarantine of mainland firewood to Beaver Island seems to be working. Thank you to the Beaver Island Association for coordinating the EAB monitoring program.
