Join us Saturday September 2nd, 7pm at St. James Episcopal Church, for a contra dance!

This dance will be focused on beginners and learning the basics. While we do have a handful of experienced dancers planning to attend, we expect there will be many who are new to this form of dancing. Our goal is to eventually have regular contra dances on Beaver Island! So come learn this fun, energetic, community-friendly dance style! With music by Banjo Bob, Cynthia, and others. And learn from experienced caller Karin Neils.

Contra Dance is a folk dance made up of long lines of couples. Contra dancing is a social dance that one can attend without a partner. The dancers form couples, and the couples form sets in long lines starting from the stage and going down the length of the dance hall. Throughout the course of a dance, couples progress up and down these lines, dancing with each other couple in the line. The dance is led by a caller who teaches the sequence of figures in the dance before the music starts.

This is a free, family friendly event! Hope to see you there!
Call (2125), email, or fb Larissa McGinnity if you have any questions.

We have not set an end time, but typically (on the mainland) these kinds of dances last a couple hours. People come and go, enjoy the music, dance, visit with friends. We thought we'd just see how the night progresses. ;)
