Coming up soon is the Total Solar Eclipse, April 8th. It will begin about 2 p.m. and go until about 4:30 p.m. The maximum for us (about 87%) will occur at 3:13 p.m. So it will seem dark!

To Celebrate- the Library has a lot of planned activities. We will have a Smart Telescope set up and streaming to our big TV inside. We have plenty of Eclipse glasses to hand out, and other alternatives to viewing the sun (colanders, slotted spoons or even cardboard with a hole in it!). Or if there is no sun due to clouds- we will stream from NASA which will air from areas without cloud coverage.

I know this is the end of the school day and hope parents know about the total eclipse and we invite them to attend also, since the maximum will be close to the normal pick up time from school.

We will also have other activities that can be done with or without the sun shining. Cynthia Pryor will be telling us how the Native Americans perceived an eclipse. We have coloring pages, and other "worksheet" puzzles, etc. for some to play with. We have GLOBE and Eclipse Soundscapes Citizen Science gathering activities also.

The next Total Solar viewable in North America is in 2044. So this is truly an event worth seeing. I hope you are as excited about this as we are and will come to celebrate with us!
