New Children's Librarian at the Library-but not a new face to the Island.


Maeve Green will be joining our staff as the Children's Librarian. Samantha Bontrager, who has been serving in that capacity will be leaving the island on Sept. 2 to return to Indiana where she will work as a children's librarian.

Maeve is the daughter of Kitty (McNamara) and Mike Green. Born and raised on the Island, she is returning with her baby son and partner to live. Maeve has a strong elementary education background, having earned her degree at Northern Michigan University. She taught at the Beaver Island Community School for 3 years before leaving to work as a STEM Curriculum consultant. She is currently working on a Master's Degree in k-12 Reading specialist. We are so excited to have her join our staff and look forward to what she will bring to the position.
