Street Legal Golf Carts

Post by BobTidmore »

Street legal golf carts

At the last Township meeting Lois Williams brought up the subject of street legal golf carts and the fact that with the proper modifications they can be used on certain roads. I found a company in Port Huron ( http://golfcartmichigan.com/street_legal.html ) that modifies carts for sale. If anyone else is interested let me know at b_tidmore@hotmail.com and maybe we can work up a bulk purchase and get break on the freight charges.

Here are some excerpts from the e-mail I received from the company.

It really depends on what you start with and what you want to end up with. Let me start with a few questions:

Do you have cars now?
If buying cars, New or Used?
Do you want gas or electric?
2 or 4 passenger?
How much "bling" do you want on the cars?
Would you like the cars lifted or stock height?

We can take any car and make it street legal. To quote on one just depends on what we start with. Making them street legal will allow you to drive on streets posted 35mph or less.

A street legal car will most likely range from a low of 2004 @ $3,000 up to a 2008 new car @ $8,500 or more.

Thank You

Why spend $8000 to beef up a golf cart when for a couple thousand more you could have an EV that is designed for the road and is already street legal? Plus there are used EVs available for less ....

Polaris Ranger

Post by markbec1 »

I made a Polaris Ranger street legal in Michigan, which has many more uses. I plan on bringing it up to the Island this summer.

That Ranger won't necessarily get the best mileage though will it? I am sure it can go places!

HI everybody.I came across this post while doing a search for the street legality of golf carts. I'm curious if any of you have made your golf cart street legal? And if so I'm curious what you did in regards to the Michigan TR-54 document for inspection. In there is says you need safety glass (No plexi glass which is what I have), license plate light, bright light indicator, and parking brake.

Thanks for any help--peter
