Nancy Dovick RIP

Nancy and her family vacation on the island. Her husband Emmett is a former Christian Brother and spent summers at the Brothers Lodge. Her daughter Kim is the daughter in law of Hans and Davlyn Stein, and daughter Meghan has spent some summers working on the island.

DOVICK, MRS. NANCY CAROL (Wife of Emmett) Elk Rapids, MI Formerly of Muskegon Mrs. Nancy Carol Dovick, age 63, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 at her home in Elk Rapids. She was born May 4, 1944 in Saginaw, MI to George and Loretta (Prior) VanderWall and lived most of her life in the Muskegon area. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Bowling Green State University and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Nancy touched many lives in her 39 years as a teacher. She recently retired from Muskegon Public Schools and also taught in Ohio, Grand Haven, Kalkaska, and Coopersville. On December 7, 1979, she married Emmett W. Dovick in Traverse City, MI. She was a former member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Muskegon and currently a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Nancy enjoyed traveling, being active outdoors and sharing her love of nature with others. Nancy's favorite hobby was scrapbooking because it allowed her the opportunity to chronicle the many things she loved to do with family and friends. She treasured the times spent with her the children and grandchildren. Along with her husband, Emmett, SURVIVORS include her children, Kelly Rhodes of East Jordan, MI, Kimberly (Erik) Stein of Land O'Lakes, FL, Matthew Dovick of Sault Saint Marie, MI, and Meghan Dovick of South Royalton, VT; 2 grandchildren, Sydney and Carson Stein; 1 brother, Dale (Cecilia) VanderWall of Muskegon; 1 sister, Jean (Victor) Nienhuis of Grand Haven and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Loretta. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 2:30 PM Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Phillip J. Witkowski as celebrant. VISITATION with Nancy's family will be one hour prior to the Mass, 1:30-2:30 at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Little Traverse Conservancy, 3264 Powell Rd., Harbor Springs, MI 49740.
