In Need Of A Forum History Lesson

Post by Pam Grassmick »

We enjoy the Forum and we were wondering about its origins. Would the site administrator go into the history of the Forum? I'm curious as to why it was started, when (?10 years ago), who was involved, is there a board, most posted topics, most viewed topics, least viewed, what role does Rich Gillespie play, others, ect.

The forum does provide an invaluable service to the island.

Thanks for any insights.

When the Beacon site was launched in October of 2002 the forum was added along with the gallery to share extra photos that didn't fit in the early issues and news items, announcements, and other items that were timely and between issues. In the first part of 2003 Richie had the idea of registering the beaverislandforum.com domain name and thought there was a need for a free community forum. There wasn't a lot of volume of activity, especially in the early year or two, and we persuaded him to join forces with the forum started in the fall of 2002 instead of starting another separate forum and dividing the activity between more. There isn't currently a most viewed / least viewed stat board or sort by view count I'm afraid though.
