What to weed?

Post by Rahn »

TODAY is the day to weed. The wonderful rain we received has loosened the soil so that you can get the roots of the weeds more easily than any other time. If you don't get the roots, you're not really weeding.

So. What to weed?

Did you know that a weed is simply a plant out of place? For example, an oak tree seedling in your vegetable garden is a weed. And a raspberry plant in your lawn is a weed. Grass in your flower bed is a weed.

When I am asked what to weed, people usually are referring to areas where they want flowering plants to grow. When this area contains only native plants (wildflowers and grasses) pull out anything that looks like a grass. And take away dead leaves around the base of the plants. Voila! You have a natural flower garden without any chemicals.
