Balsam Fir Situation

There has been much discussion around the island this summer about the Balsam fir trees browning and dying. A similar situation is occurring on the outer islands. Samples have been delivered to Roger Mech with the Forest Health Monitoring Program with the DNR in Lansing. Roger is sending the specimens off this week to Dr. Oâ??Brien, a pathologist with USFS out of St. Paul , MN. With a good Irish name like that-we should have an answer to our Balsam mystery.
