Gaelic on Beaver this July

Post by William Cashman »

Gaelic, anyone?
Matthew Hall, a young Irishman just finishing his undergraduate work, a man whose mother was part of the Arran More contingent that came here to initiate the two-step Twinning, has let it be known that as part of his American summer he would spend much time on Beaver Island this July to teach Gaelic. To take advantage of this opportunity weâ??d have to provide transportation from and to Chicago (thereâ??s always someone driving this routeâ??or flying), lodging (perhaps a week here, a week thereâ??so far, two volunteers), and some spending money in exchange for lessons. So if anyone is interested in learning Gaelic to some degree, and is willing to pay for lessons, let the Historical Society know (history@beaverisland.net); it will coordinate the factors needed to bring this about.

That would be wonderful... I'd like to at least participate for the week I'll be there. The Grand Travers Band teaches Odowa launguage classes. It would be great for my kids to learn the original launguages of their indian and white heritage, even if it were only a few phrases that they retain. Bah Ma Peii (See you later in Odowa)....and Megwetch (Thank you in Odowa)..Wonder what these are in Gaelic???

Bill,

I am planning to make 2 or 3 trips back and forth from Chicago in July. I'd be more than happy to transport Matthew. Keep me posted.
