REMINDER - Beaver Island Club of Grand Rapids Meeting

Post by Paul/Shirley »

Just to remind those in the Grand Rapids area of the BICGR meeting Saturday night (March 26th) at 6:30pm. The agenda includes discussing the results of this year's party, determining the distribution of proceeds, and electing new officers. We welcome new members and appreciate feedback and suggestions. If you would like to attend, please email pstatch@aol.com for directions. Wishing everyone a great Easter ~ Paul & Shirley

The meeting was productive with new officers being elected. Diane O'Donnell is the new President, Paul Cole is Vice President, Jim Gallagher is the Treasurer, and Danielle Petrak agreed to remain in the Secretary position. Nathan McDonough attended as one of our newest members, and Rich Scripps represented the musical interests. The party for next year is scheduled for February 25th, the last Saturday of the month. With what we took in at the door from the party, we determined there were at least 260 people in attendance. That number is actually around 280, however, since members of the club/band get in free. It was truly a great turnout and we look forward to topping 300 next year on the 40th anniversary! We discussed the many different ways to improve upon the party, from drink tickets (no chips!) to rearranging the hall for the best sound/flow. Paul met with the Hilton and they apologized for their deficiencies this year with both the lighting and running out of appropriate barware. We were assured it would not be an issue next year, and the hotel is also in the process of securing a new/bigger dance floor. The hotel then put together a possible buffet option wherein a separate room off the party room would hold whatever foods we select (i.e. various pizzas or chicken dinner, etc.) Then people could pay at the buffet door for a meal, and take their plate back to the party area to eat at their table. Rich Scripps is trying to determine whether there would be any interest in having a "dinner music session" prior to the actual party to go along with the buffet. For example, dinner/dinner music from 5-7pm, and the regular party from 7-on. That way people can just eat at the hall before the festivities get underway. The cost for dinner would be $10-15 depending on the menu selections. The hotel also said that they would improve upon the band for the hotel bar Friday night, realizing many people come on Friday and make a weekend out of this. Our next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 18th at 1:00pm. We realize it's father's day weekend, but hope that anyone else interested in becoming involved can make the gathering. Please email me if you'd like to attend/get directions at pstatch@aol.com. And thanks again to everyone for their support! (p.s. I'll post a different topic for feedback on the buffet/dinner music ideas)
