Lake Michigan in late September?

I'm visiting the island for most of a week starting on 9/27. Wondered what the average water temperature is at that time of year. Would love to do some swimming if it's not too chilly! Thx.

MLB umpires Bill and Tim Welke: BI connection?

Noted a few days ago that two of the umps working a Tigers game were Tim and Bill Welke. A friend suggested at one point that Tim (and presumably Bill, since they're brothers) had Beaver Island roots. The MLB bio for Tim says he's from Coldwater. What's the story? :?:

Bored? Hardly!

My kids have been spending family vacations on Beaver Island every summer for the past 15+ years. Our oldest graduates this year. Although she has rolled her eyes a bit in recent years about the slow pace of Beaver Island life, I recently heard her tell someone that Beaver Island is her "favori...

NO KIDDING?!?!

I, too, saw Slide at Wheatland and was bowled over by their talent and energy. I'm on the Program Committee for the Wheatland Festival, and if there's someone on the Island we could refer Celtic groups to...in case they're interested in "block booking"...please email me at kstableford@yaho...

Wifi

What's the coverage area of the Central Solutions WiFi? We rent the Last Resort, on Sand Bay, and I'm wondering whether that's outside of the covered area.

Keys found on East Side Drive

On Tuesday, 8/14 I found a vehicle key (Chevy) attached to a remote unlocker on East Side Drive, just south of the Jordan River. I wasn't sure what to do with it, so stuck it in the top of the "Vesty Ville" sign just NORTH of the Jordan River bridge.

Little Known Facts About Marine Life (humor)

A number of primary schools were doing a project on "The Sea." Kids were asked to draw pictures or write about their experiences. Teachers got together to compare the results and put together some of the 'better' ones. 1. This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly, age...

oops

I had a far-reaching enough memory to recall that someone had inquired about old apple trees a few months back on the forum, so found that topic and "bumped" it. As soon as I did, I realized that person and the person now making a similar inquiry are one and the same. Oh, well....good try....

Irish Road Bowling

Did anyone else happen to see the piece on the CBS "Sunday Morning" program about a sport imported from Ireland (across the pond) to Ireland, WV? It involves tossing a small (looked like between golf ball and baseball sized) metal sphere down a paved roadway, and covering a mile in the few...
