Alive and well....
We dodged a direct hit here in Key West but still scary. Crossing my swords for good luck for my good mate Richie and friends in the Port Charlotte area. All my friends in Cuba fortunately survived but no electricity and major damages.

Re: Live Irish Music Welcome for the Beaver Island Boat
Hey hi5, What a great revival of an old tradition. With inflation, it's now 100,000 welcomes but I'm thinking visitors will now enjoy it a hundred times more than before. Keep us updated on your progress. I'm thinking there are some choral groups out there who will join in with some old Irish songs....

Re: Paul Niehaus RIP
My good mate PJ was one of the best. We shared many good times and good stories together from ditching on Fox Island to sailing the Great Lakes. Be forever free, fly high my friend and when you look down from time to time, you will see many of us who will miss you. Sail on the gentle winds of eterni...

Family & Tragedy
I am proud and protective of my mixed family. This is about family and tragedy. My family includes Dinghy, my cat and Tug, my dog. I love them as if they were my direct offspring; maybe even more because they depend totally upon me. That's family! The tragedy is if one of them were hit and killed, n...

Re: One Statement and Two Questions
All the best well wishes to Rory and Marie. Hats off to Richie for getting things started with his setting the GoFundMe up and first donation. It was fun watching the incognito donors creatively supporting the cause. But the biggest thanks goes to all who donated, exceeding the goal. The need is sti...

Re: June 14 Veteran social
Go Veterans! Thank you to Veteran Affairs and COA for coordinating the Veteran's social on BI. I'm still in Key West and won't be able to attend but have a very pertinent question for those who may want to attend. The question is this, the statement that veterans must produce their DD214 or have ser...

Re: One Statement and Two Questions
I thought Protar went by a number of aliases but he was a amateur compared to Mr. Taylor. Mr. Taylor is no amateur when it comes to supporting the cause with a generous "spirit", pun intended, for inventive alias donations to Rory's GoFundMe. Good job Mr. Taylor, so close to making the $10...

Re: One Statement and Two Questions
What was posed as a simple question, who is buried in Protar's tomb, appears to have conjured up an apparition of past ghostly and bigger than life characters. I see that James Jesse Strang and Bishop Baraga have joined the generous living in contributing to Rory's GoFundMe cause. =D> =D> =D>

Re: One Statement and Two Questions
Not so fast! It could be one in the same. Check out Antje Price's works on file at the museum on Mr. Protar, orrrr is it Parrot? He went by many names according to her research; Doctor being one of them which he absolutely denied being and objected to people referring to him as one. His birth name w...

One Statement and Two Questions
I see where Protar donated $1000 to Rory's GoFundMe which leads me to one statement and two questions. Statement: Well done. Question 1: Did Protar discover Strang's gold? Question 2: If Protar lives, who is buried in Protar's tomb? It's always been rumored that Protar's final wish was that his frie...

Thanks to all for Mr. Taylor's email address. I've reached out to him to see if we can hook up while he is down here.

Re: I Think, I Think I Know You
Nailed it! So it was Ken Taylor. A doctor once told me that consuming rum was bad for my health, brain and longevity. I told the doctor that I knew more old rum drinking sailors and pirates than old doctors and they were far more fun. Medical advise or rum, my choice. I knew it was Ken Taylor. So th...

I Think, I Think I Know You
Have you ever seen someone and you know you know them but can't come up with a name or from where? It just happened to me tonight. Seeing a friend off at the airport here in Key West, I saw this guy I knew I knew but didn't know who or from where. He was totally familiar but the eyes were engaging f...
